This week was definitely interesting with the assignments. The photoblitz was one that I enjoyed, however probably not as cool as getting to watch Tron: Legacy and reflect on it for an assignment. This graphic design segment is truly important in society. Many can use this information for their careers and make very good money with that kind of skill. I have some family that live in big cities with marketing/design jobs and are happy with it.

The PhotoBlitz
My photoblitz was fairly intriguing as I have been stuck in my house for a while, I had to get decently creative with the prompts that were selected for me.
For the hands that tell a story, I chose my hands. They are calloused from years of wrestling and lifting weights .
For the one thing different than the rest I chose this old Samsung along with two older iPhones. Not exactly sure why I had this Samsung I had thought I never owned one so it was interesting to find.
This is my dog Bear. Well more specifically, his nose. He is just the best dog in the world and I will fight you over that.
The hardest choices come with the biggest rewards. I struggle every day to decide what to eat from this very pantry.
This is a marching quad. I have no idea why it is called that. There are definitely 5 drums there. Maybe all the musicians love to gaslight people.
It said a smile, however I have got at least 5 (not sure if my dad or twin brother count). This picture was taken a long time ago in a land far, far away.
This sign was supposed to represent my day, I like to see it more like a lifestyle. You can’t ever have a bad day if you choose to be happy, like my OG Bob Ross.

Visual Design Reflection
I really enjoyed the article “A Kid’s Guide to Graphic Design by Iconic Designer Chip Kidd” when talking about visual design. The first couple of paragraphs are about the cultural blindness to design. Looking around my room, that claim couldn’t be any more accurate. From the cologne on my desk to the laptop on my lap, everything in this room was designed specifically to appear the best that it could, including the energy drink in my hand. Graphic design is important because it is visual and allows businesses to effectively communicate information on their products and create a sense of identity.

Week 2 Summary
This week was a much more in depth and interesting week. Meeting Dr. Oblivion and creating my character were probably the most interesting assignments I have had as a college student so far. As an off-campus student, I have been struggling with my internet due to some freak ComCast accidents, however I do believe they have been fixed for the time being.

The Lustrous Life of Duke Wallwrist
Born in the not so distant future of 2055, in the The South Pole-Aitken basin of the Moon, Duke Wallwrist is a self-made multibillionaire who capitalized the monopolization of mineral mining on the moon. He lives alone, his only friends being his highest level managers, his social skills could definitely use some work. With a strong taste for wealth, he can always “stoop down” for a Taco Bell Steak Grilled Cheese Burrito.

Week One Summary
In the first week of Digital Storytelling, I have accomplished so much more than I expected. Last week, I would have laughed at the idea of having a domain, let alone customizing and posting to it. The course load wasn’t intense, although very thought provoking as I had never thought about the Tech Noir theme, or it’s applications. I truly did enjoy the first week of this course and am excited to see how it continues.

What Do I Expect?
Through this course I mostly expect to fulfil the digital requirement for the university, however I am interested in the skills that I may obtain throughout the semester. Firstly, the ability of digital literacy is becoming increasingly important and required more and more as time goes on. As I learn how to create, upkeep, and update my own domain I expect to gain skills that I may use in the workspace for many years to come. Next, I can tell that this course will constantly have me working creatively, which I do currently struggle with. I hope that creativity is like a muscle, where working it extra will help it grow.

Tron: Legacy Review
Tron: Legacy is an encapsulating film following the story of Sam as he is trapped in a digital world that has held his father captive for 20 years. This film is perfect for the theme of “Tech Noir” as it shows a “What If?” scenario dealing with mass advancements in technology.
The visual and auditory aspects of this film truly are perfect for the genre. For about 90% of the movie, the setting is a futuristic cyberworld inside of a video game. The sound track, similarly, is techno-based exactly as you would expect from this sort of movie.
The Grid (what the digital world is named) is home of the textbook utopia-turned-dystopia stories, where the creator made it to be a perfect escape for the player. The Creator (Kevin) gets to see how his desire for a utopia led to dire consequences. The tensions between such an advanced invention and its eventual application is something that can be seen today in the real world. Artificial Intelligence is the perfect example in the real world for this. Initially created to solve higher levelled questions that the world’s smartest minds struggle with, now it is used all throughout academics to solve simpler tasks and save time.
